Because a general search engine might get you a page from the finance department of university of Michigan for the bill paid to a hotel, just because it has a word ‘hotel’ in it. And you are definitely not interested in that piece of mathematics.

Hotel search engines are designed in such a way that they get you only hotels. Hotel discounts are site dependant however there is generally a 1% to 5% discount. If not a discount then you get some extra amenity.
